About
Concurrently with building their monastery, the Benedictine monks who settled on the Sacred Mount of Pannonia in 996 revived the viticulture that had been introduced to the region by the Romans. Some 50 years following the nationalization drive in the wake of World War II, the Archabbey Pannonhalma and MKB Bank joined forces to resuscitate this tradition once again by establishing new plantations and a winery.
Two thirds of the newly planted vineyards, on a total of 50 hectares, were devoted to white (Rheinriesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Welshriesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc) and one third to red grape varieties (Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Franc). Using cellar technology optimized for the given varietal composition and based on gravitational movement, we are capable of producing more than 400.000 bottles of quality wine per year.
