On 10 September 2026, the iFood Cluster held an online webinar on the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), followed by the first meeting of the cluster’s Sustainable Packaging Materials working group.
Margit Weisz opened the first cluster event of the autumn season. The presentation “PPWR in practice” was given by Rita Komoróczy-Kollár, Commercial Manager of Kollár Pakk Kft. She explained that Regulation (EU) 2025/40, in force since February 2025, covers the entire life cycle of packaging, with requirements tightening in several stages between 2026 and 2038.
From 12 August 2026, manufacturers must demonstrate the compliance of their packaging through a conformity assessment, technical documentation and an EU declaration of conformity. From 2030, packaging will be classified as A, B or C based on its recyclability, certain packaging types may be banned, and minimum recycled content will become mandatory. From 2038, only class A and B packaging will remain on the market.
The speaker recommended four steps to prepare: reviewing the packaging portfolio, organising supplier documentation, drawing up a development roadmap, and building a shared packaging database that serves PPWR, EPR and ESG data needs alike.
After the Q&A session, the Sustainable Packaging Materials working group held its first meeting. The group is led by Rita Komoróczy-Kollár.
We thank the speaker and all participants for their active involvement.
